Winning Connections helped the President-elect build crowds, persuade swing voters, mobilize Latinos, and turn out infrequent voters in Florida, Indiana, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. We are proud to have played our part in making history, and to have helped Barack Obama remake the electoral map.
Winning Connections contacted hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans for the Franken campaign, helping Campaign Manager Stephanie Schriock (previously of Senator Tester’s 2006 victory), and Field Director Dan Cramer bring Al Franken back from 10 points down in July to a dead heat on election day.
Winning Connections helped make the difference in neck and neck gubernatorial races, boosting Governor Chris Gregoire’s successful re-election campaign in Washington (Evergreen Progress PAC) and putting new governor Bev Perdue over the top in North Carolina. We also helped Governor-elect Jack Markell win a tough primary battle in Delaware.
South Dakota Healthy Families enlisted Winning Connections’ help to beat the abortion ban by ten points. In California, Winning Connections fought hard against Proposition 8 and its elimination of constitutional marriage rights for the LGBT community. Unfortunately, big money from out-of-state groups led to narrow approval of Prop 8. Winning Connections fully expects that the fight will go on and will be a part of it. Our firm also worked on a trio of successful initiative campaigns in Colorado, beating the Right-to-Work, anti-Affirmative Action, and Personhood Amendments.
The League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club and Clean Water Action enlisted Winning Connections this year to grow the Democratic edge in the 111th Congress. In the Senate, we worked on independent efforts to elect Jeanne Shaheen, Kay Hagan, Mark Udall, and Jeff Merkley. In the House, we helped Mark Schauer and Gary Peters. In addition, Winning Connections teamed up with the environmental groups, USAction and others to bolster Obama’s margins in key states like NC, NH, CO, and OH.
Winning Connections’ efforts boosted Democrats to victory in some of the toughest districts in the country. Our congratulations go out to our victorious clients, including Frank Kratovil, Harry Teague, Martin Heinrich, Walt Minnick, Jared Polis, Glenn Nye, Steve Driehaus, Mark Schauer, Mary Jo Kilroy, Kathy Dahlkemper, and John Adler. We also worked for great public servants who fell short this time but will be back: Darcy Burner, Mike Skelly, Sharen Neuhardt, Jill Derby, Judy Feder, Alice Kryzan, Gary Trauner, and Jim Esch.
Latinos and other minorities that have largely been disengaged from political action were the focus of a major effort this year, and Winning Connections is excited to have played a part in that success. The We Are America Alliance coalition brought together progressive organizations to empower those communities, and these newly activated voters made a big difference, turning out to vote in record numbers. Winning Connections helped to educate and mobilize new and sporadic voters in Colorado, Virginia, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, New York, and Washington.
Winning Connections is only two blocks from the US Capitol - and it looks better than ever!
Congratulations and best wishes to all our clients!
